Your New Favorite Spots Around Elon & Burlington
There’s something pretty great about having plenty to explore right outside your front door. Living in Elon puts you close to the charm of a lively college town, while nearby Burlington adds even more parks, restaurants, coffee shops, and local gems to the mix. With Parc Northwest coming to Elon, there’s plenty to discover close to home. Whether you’re new to the area or just looking for a few new favorites, here are some spots worth adding to the list.
Grandaddy’s Antique Mall
Part shopping trip, part treasure hunt, and part “wait, where did you even find that?” Grandaddy’s is the kind of place where you can wander in without a plan and somehow leave with something you absolutely did not know you needed. With booths filled with antiques, vintage finds, collectibles, furniture, and plenty of unexpected treasures, it’s a fun stop for anyone who likes a little character with their shopping.
Burlington City Park
This is not your average neighborhood park. Burlington City Park has more than 75 acres to explore, with walking trails, open green space, tennis, pickleball, playgrounds, and plenty of room to let the kids burn off some energy. There’s also the beautifully restored Dentzel Carousel, plus a miniature train that takes riders on a little journey through the park. Yes, you can absolutely ride a tiny train through a city park and call it an afternoon well spent. The train runs seasonally and even has an ADA-accessible car, weather permitting.
Cedarock Park
When the goal is to get outside, Cedarock delivers. This 500-acre park has hiking and equestrian trails, disc golf, fishing, a waterfall, camping, and even canoe and kayak rentals. There’s also a historic farm to explore, making it an easy place to spend a few hours without ever running out of things to do. Basically, “let’s do something outside” can mean a lot more than taking a walk around the block.
Burlington Arboretum
A quiet little escape when a slower afternoon sounds good. The Burlington Arboretum at Willowbrook Park has walking paths through beautifully maintained gardens and plant collections, making it an easy place to wander, take a few pictures, or simply enjoy some fresh air. It’s proof that sometimes a good afternoon doesn’t need much of an itinerary.
Sursy
Part plant boutique, part bar, part cozy hangout. Sursy is a downtown Burlington spot where you can browse houseplants and unique gifts, grab a drink, and settle into one of the cozy seating areas for a while. Think “plant shopping,” but with a beverage in hand and absolutely no need to rush. It’s also a fun place to pick up a gift, learn a little about keeping your new leafy friend alive, or just hang out somewhere that feels a little different from your average afternoon stop.
Burlington Beer Works
Good food, good beer, and a downtown setting make Burlington Beer Works an easy choice for a casual night out. It’s North Carolina’s first cooperative brewery and restaurant, with beer brewed right on site and a menu focused on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Grab a table, settle in, and make a meal out of it. No need to be in a hurry.
The Blend Burlington
For the days that call for a coffee run and a change of scenery, there’s The Blend. Located on Front Street, this community-focused coffee shop has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and plenty of coffee and food options. And then there are the croissant sandwiches. They’re a must-try, especially if “just grabbing coffee” tends to turn into “well, now I’m hungry.” Grab a latte, order a sandwich, and settle in for a slow morning.
The Oak House
Right in downtown Elon, The Oak House is one of those places that works for just about any part of the day. It’s a coffeehouse, wine bar, craft beer lounge, and a very solid place to camp out with a laptop when the home office needs a change of scenery. Grab a coffee, find a table, get some work done, and stay awhile. The Oak House even hosts co-working gatherings, so you definitely won’t be the only person getting some work done there.
The Village Grill
A Burlington favorite for nearly four decades, The Village Grill has earned its spot as a local go-to. The menu covers plenty of bases, from seafood and salads to burgers and pasta, so it works just as well for a casual lunch as it does for dinner with friends. And if the Key West Chicken is on the menu, consider that a pretty good reason to give it a try.
Burlington Food Hall
Can’t decide what everyone wants for dinner? Perfect. The Burlington Food Hall makes group meals significantly easier, with a variety of local food options all under one roof. You’ll find everything from burgers, pizza, noodles, sandwiches, and salads to boba and sweet treats, so everyone can pick their own adventure. It’s an especially good option when the group has approximately zero interest in agreeing on one restaurant.
Living at Parc Northwest means having plenty to explore without having to go far. Coffee in downtown Elon, an afternoon at the park, a little antique hunting in Burlington, or dinner at a local favorite are all easy additions to the weekly rotation. With Elon and Burlington both close by, there’s always another spot to discover, another trail to wander, or another excuse to get out and explore. Honestly, having this many good options nearby might make staying home a little harder.
