Which Kind of Fall Are You? Our Triangle Fall Hit List 🍂
Fall in the Triangle means cooler temps, changing leaves, pumpkin patches, patios that are suddenly pleasant again and approximately 47 excuses to eat something with apple cider in it.
Whether your ideal fall day involves a trail, a brewery patio, a corn maze or making something cozy for your house, we've got a few ideas for you.
So... which kind of fall are you?
🍂 The Active One
You don't hibernate. You hike.
Cooler weather has arrived, which means it's finally time to enjoy the outdoors without immediately sweating through your clothes.
Whether you want a real hike, a scenic stroll or just somewhere to wander around while the leaves do their thing, these spots belong on your fall rotation.
William B. Umstead State Park | Raleigh/Cary
Wooded trails, lakes and plenty of room to wander. When the leaves start changing, Umstead is basically showing off.
Anderson Point Park | Raleigh
A great option when you want some fresh air without committing your entire Saturday to a hike. The park connects to Raleigh's greenway system and gives you access toward the Neuse River Greenway Trail.
Knightdale Station Park | Knightdale
More casual than hardcore hiking, with multi-use trails, open green space and plenty of room to stretch your legs. Perfect for a crisp fall evening when you want to get outside without going full REI.
Dorothea Dix Park | Raleigh
Not exactly a hike, but an excellent excuse to get outside. Grab a blanket, wander the grounds and take in the Raleigh skyline while the weather is actually cooperating.
🍺 The Outsidey, Not Outdoorsy One
You want fall leaves. You do not want hiking boots.
You like being outside. You just prefer your version of "outdoorsy" to include a patio, a brewery, a glass of wine, maybe a food truck and definitely a bathroom within reasonable walking distance.
Honestly? Fair.
ZincHouse Winery & Brewery | Durham
This one is practically built for a fall afternoon. Think vineyard views, open-air seating, lawn games, live music and plenty of space to settle in with a drink while the weather does its thing. Maximum fall scenery, minimum hiking.
Oak City Brewing | Knightdale
A laid-back brewery with a beer garden, food trucks and plenty of outdoor space. Grab a pint, bring the pup and make an afternoon of it.
Steel String Brewery at Pluck Farm | Mebane
Beer brewed on-site, open farmland, food trucks and live music. It's less "brewery parking lot" and more "we accidentally spent four hours outside."
Holl & Stone Farms | Garner
Pure fall afternoon material. Set on a historic farm with open-air seating, a market, plant nursery, ice cream, animals and fire pits, it's the kind of place where you can wander around and fully embrace the fact that it is no longer 95 degrees.
🎃 The Pumpkin Everything One
You heard "fall" and immediately thought pumpkin.
No judgment. This is your section.
If your ideal October involves a corn maze, hayride, pumpkins and approximately 47 opportunities for a seasonal photo, you're in the right place.
Phillips Farm of Cary | Cary
Pumpkins, corn mazes, wagon rides and all the classic fall-farm activities. And yes, there's an important food component here too: the country store serves hot apple cider donuts.
Grasshopper Farms | Knightdale
A corn maze, hayrides, pumpkin patch, fall produce and a country store stocked with seasonal goodies. The ice cream shop also serves apple cider donuts and an apple cider slushy, because apparently one form of apple cider wasn't enough.
Crossroads Corn Maze | Wendell
Get lost for a little while, ideally on purpose. Add some cider and fall snacks and you've got yourself a very respectable October afternoon.
🍎 The Fall Foodie
You don't just want fall vibes. You want fall flavors.
This is for the people who see "seasonal menu" and immediately need to know what's on it.
Apple cider donuts? Yes. Pumpkin pastries? Obviously. Apple everything? Bring it on.
Phillips Farm | Cary
Yes, it's already on the pumpkin list. But this is where we acknowledge the real reason some of us are actually going: hot apple cider donuts. Eat one while walking around the farm. Eat another before you leave. We don't make the rules.
Grasshopper Farms | Knightdale
Apple cider donuts, apple cider slushies and a country store full of seasonal goodies. Basically, if you're looking for apple cider in several different forms, you've found your people.
Botanist & Barrel | Cedar Grove
When apple season rolls around, this is a serious contender. Their fall Apple Fest has featured fresh apple cider donuts, caramel apples, hot mulled cider, apple-pressed drinks and other very autumnal treats. This is what happens when someone says, "Let's celebrate apples" and refuses to hold back.
Monuts | Durham
Keep an eye on the seasonal donut lineup for fall flavors, including apple cider. Because apparently regular donuts weren't enough. We needed a donut that tastes like October.
🧸 The Cozy One
Your fall plans involve making something, wearing something soft or staying inside on purpose.
You don't necessarily want to go somewhere. You want to do something that makes your house feel cozier.
Skip the standard "grab coffee and read a book" recommendations. This is your permission slip to lean all the way into fall.
Wick & Sip Candle Lounge | Raleigh
Make your own candle, pick your scent and settle into a very cozy DIY experience. Go heavy on the vanilla, amber, cedar and cinnamon scents and suddenly your house smells like fall without requiring you to bake anything.
Carolina Clay Studio | Cary
Fall is a pretty good excuse to make something you'll actually use at home. Their fall lineup includes a fall-themed serving platter, baking dishes, mugs and even a beer stein workshop. Basically, you can make the thing you want to use while drinking your cider, serving your pie or hosting your next Friendsgiving.
Carolina Stained Glass | Durham
Take a stained-glass class and make something for your home that feels a little more special than your average craft-night project. Fall-themed workshops are a particularly good excuse to try it if you're suddenly convinced your house needs warm, colorful window art.
Cozy Panda Pottery Painting | Triangle
Pick a ceramic, paint your masterpiece and take it home. It's low-pressure, creative and exactly the kind of activity that works for a girls' night, date night or rainy Saturday when you need to get out of the house without actually doing anything strenuous.
And if you really just want to stay home...
Make an apple cider old fashioned: apple cider, bourbon, bitters and a cinnamon stick.
Bake something aggressively autumnal: apple crisp, pumpkin bread, apple muffins or whatever recipe has been haunting your saved posts.
Or make a pumpkin cream cold brew for the people who aren't emotionally prepared to give up iced coffee just because the temperature dropped.
Light a candle. Put on a sweater. Make something warm.
Congratulations. You are now doing fall correctly.
So... which kind of fall are you?
The trail person. The pumpkin person. The apple cider donut person. The brewery patio person. The "let's make something" person.
Or, more realistically, a little bit of all of them.
Either way, fall is officially your excuse to get outside, eat something seasonal, find a new favorite spot and enjoy the Triangle while the weather is actually cooperating. 🍂
